A study recently published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease suggests a strong link between advanced periodontal disease and Alzheimer’s. The study looked at levels of Porphyromonas gingivalis, a bacterium commonly found in people with chronic periodontal that could be found in the brains of people living with Alzheimer’s. Similar levels of this bacterium could not be found in any of the study participants who were not suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia.
