If you have crooked or misaligned teeth but don’t want to deal with the difficulties caused by braces, Invisalign® is an excellent orthodontic option. As one of the leading Pittsburgh Invisalign providers, Dentonics, Inc has helped many patients get the best possible results from the process, and we often get questions from patients asking how they can do their part to make sure Invisalign works for them.
Here are some tips to help you get excellent results from Invisalign:
- Use warm water to put them in- Every two weeks, you get a new customized set of Invisalign trays to put in your mouth. These can initially cause some discomfort, but rinsing them in warm water beforehand can help. Don’t use hot water, as you risk warping the trays.
- Keep them in 22 hours each day- You tend to get the best results from Invisalign if you have the trays in your mouth at least 22 hours a day. Keep track of how long you go without the trays in!
- Brush and floss immediately after meals- The faster you brush and floss, the less time you spend with the Invisalign trays out of your mouth. Equally important, brushing and flossing immediately after a meal will prevent food particles from getting stuck underneath the trays.
- Keep the trays clean- Because your Invisalign trays spend so much time in your mouth, it helps to think of them as a second set of teeth. Soak them in a mixture of 50% water and 50% hydrogen peroxide for 5-7 minutes every day, and brush them to remove any bacterial residue.
- Avoid sugary drinks- Sugary drinks are bad enough for your dental health without any orthodontics, but with Invisalign they can get into the trays and not get washed out for hours. You can still drink sodas and juices if you want, but remember to clean your trays and teeth immediately afterwards.
If you follow these tips throughout your time using Invisalign, you will increase your chances for fantastic results, all while using an orthodontic device that many people won’t ever notice!
