If you are considering traditional metal braces for correcting misalignments, gaps, overbites, underbites and other common dental alignment problems, Invisalign might be a good option for you. Invisalign straightens smiles by using a series of virtually invisible plastic aligner trays that are worn by the patient the majority of the day for a specified treatment period to gradually fix alignment issues.
At your Invisalign appointment, custom fitted plastic aligner trays will be molded to fit your teeth. These trays will go home with you so that you can simply switch them out every couple of weeks, which means you don’t have to visit the dentist for checkups as frequently as you might with traditional braces. The trays also tend to be more comfortable than traditional braces, and when you do have a checkup, it won’t leave you sore or unable to eat as with tightening appointments for metal braces. Invisalign aligners can also be removed so that you can eat, drink and maintain a regular hygiene regimen.
At home, your plastic aligner trays will have to be worn for about 22 hours per day. After two weeks of wearing an Invisalign tray, you simply switch out the tray to the next one in the series.
The length of your treatment period will vary depending on your unique needs, but generally treatment is between 6 months to a year, though in some cases it may be longer.
If you have common alignment problems but do not want to wear traditional, metal braces, Invisalign might be the right option for you. To find out more about your candidacy, please contact Dentonics at 412-487-6910 to schedule a consultation with one of our Gibsonia cosmetic dentists.
