Porcelain Fillings

SERVING PITTSBURGH, ALLISON PARK, AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS OF PENNSYLVANIA

Porcelain fillings are a durable, natural-looking solution for treating cavities.

Unlike traditional amalgam fillings, porcelain fillings contain no mercury. The Pittsburgh dentists at Dentonics are pleased to offer patients mercury-free dental fillings options including porcelain fillings and composite resin fillings that leave as much of your natural teeth as possible intact while restoring and protecting the remaining portions of the affected teeth.

Porcelain fillings can be used as a first-time cavity treatment or as a replacement for standard metal fillings. Unlike amalgam fillings, porcelain is not packed into the cavity, but is bonded directly to the surface of your affected tooth; this provides structural integrity that traditional metal fillings cannot match.

In addition to providing strength and functionality that amalgam fillings lack, porcelain fillings are custom-made to seamlessly match the form and color of your natural teeth. Metal fillings are easily noticeable, and many patients choose to replace amalgam fillings with porcelain fillings as much for the aesthetic value as for the potential health benefits.

The porcelain fillings procedure requires two visits. During your first appointment, the affected tooth and cavity will be cleaned, and the decayed portion removed. Tooth impressions will be made and will serve as the basis for your custom-made porcelain filling.

A temporary filling will be placed while your custom porcelain filling is crafted. When your porcelain filling is complete, you will return to the office and your filling will be bonded to the affected tooth.

While metal fillings are prone to loosening and breaking, porcelain fillings can last a lifetime with proper care. That said, porcelain fillings are not the best treatment option for every cavity, and some patients may benefit from composite resin fillings or another solution. Your consultation and exam will determine the ideal choice for you.

If you live in the Pittsburgh or Allison Park, Pennsylvania, areas and need a new filling or would like to replace a metal amalgam filling, please contact Dentonics to schedule your personal consultation with Dr. Joe or Dr. Charles Frye. We would love to welcome you to our extended dental family.
